Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona

A very close look at a wild agave in the Sonoran Desert reveals its formidable defense against foragers. The almost crocodile-like appearance of the spines along the leaves inspires alarm and admiration of its dangerous beauty. Such a close perspective blurs the boundary between plant and animal, as each has keenly evolved mechanisms for survival.

Getting this shot required delicately placing a tripod between rows of sharp teeth at just the right angle. I spent over an hour with this plant to properly convey it's beauty through photography. After finally leaving the area, I was left with a deeper appreciation of what plants must do to thrive or even survive in the harshest deserts.

  • HD Metal Print

Printed with UltraChrome Dye-Sublimation ink on a Chromaluxe metal panel. During the Dye Sublimation process, the photo is first printed onto a sheet of transfer paper, then placed on a specialized, pre-treated piece of aluminum. Finally, the aluminum is placed into the Chromaluxe sublimation heat press for a reliable transfer that yields vibrant colors and a permanent protection. The dyes are infused beneath the exterior coating of the metal, which results in a scratch resistant print. HD metal prints are also waterproof. Float wall mounts are affixed to all HD Metal prints to allow easy hanging with screws or nails.

  • Paper Print

Printed on glossy silver halide photo paper to enhance details and bring out intense colors. This unique photo paper is covered with a thin layer of pearly mica crystals to give off a silver-white and metallic reflection. A special protective coating is applied to all paper prints to help prevent fingerprints and smudges and ensure longevity of the art piece.

Paper prints are shipped flat to preserve the integrity of the paper and to make framing and mounting easier than rolled prints. This prevents the prints from acquiring a curl from being rolled in a tube. Don’t settle for rolled up prints shipped in a tube; you’ll never be able to flatten them perfectly.

  • Rigid Paper Print

Same as the above paper and ink quality but mounted on Gator Foamboard to provide a very rigid, durable, and lightweight backing. Gator Foamboard is also moisture resistant so your mounted print will not warp over time. This option includes a plastic hanger affixed to the back to make it easy to hang right away.
